‘Hey guys this is a real long shot but I lost three silver rings at Second Bay in Coolum yesterday arvo,’ Ms Broeren wrote to the Coolum Beach buy swap and sell group.

‘They are all really special to me and I’ve had them for a long time, one of them was my mum’s. They came out of my jean pocket as I forgot I put them in there for a swim.’

‘If anyone has found them or has a metal detector and could help me out that would be so incredible!’

Self-proclaimed ‘treasure hunter’ Sam Riley was tagged in the post and decided to head down to the beach with his metal detector to help find the rings.

Mr Riley retraced Ms Broeren’s steps and quickly found all three rings and returned them to their owner.

Excited by the find, Ms Broeren took to Facebook once again to express her gratitude to the man who helped her.

‘I posted in here the other night about my rings that I lost on Saturday!’ she wrote.

‘I thought I may as well but I never really expected to find them to be honest. Yesterday I had a random call and this absolute legend was down at the bays having a search with a metal detector.

‘After a bit of a trek around the bays he managed to find them!’ Ms Broeren said.

‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you.’

Since helping Ms Broeren find her rings, Mr Riley set up a Facebook page called ‘Detecting Coolum Beach’ to help others find their lost valuables.

‘If people feel they want to give me something in return they do, but I really do it for the reaction, especially if the item has sentimental value,’ Mr Riley told Yahoo.
